The APRU Multi-Hazards (MH) Program has been advocating the importance and needs for disaster preparedness on campus through its Campus Safety Program. It strongly encourages to develop a disaster management plan which is the foundation of all the key disaster preparedness initiatives. The 1st UNISDR Asia Science and Technology Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction was organized on 23-24 August 2016 in Bangkok. One of the recommendations under the Priority 2 of the Sendai Framework in the outcome document is “Developing inter-disciplinary national science and technology plans to support implementation of the Sendai Framework. This includes actions by academia/universities to develop their own disaster risk management plans“.  This comes into line the Campus Safety’s key requirements and it proves that to ensure safety on campus contributes to the implementation of the Sendai Framework for DRR. The  APRU MH program continues working with the APRU member universities to support an effort to strengthen their campus safety capacity.
